A day late posting for Earth Day - written a few years ago and still happening!

RIVER BED

Standing in the river bed

Where the waters once flowed.

To what is this owed?

How will nature be fed?

Will the balance corrode?

More carefully I tread

Wondering what lies ahead

And what more can erode.

Though last to become a state,

First to set the country straight.

State-wide ban on plastic bags,

While rest of the nation drags.

Planet Protection

Forget the jokes that he's a bore,
Listen to what's said by Al Gore.
It's a crisis we can't ignore.
Shouldn't we learn how to do more?

We see the glaciers disappear,
But it doesn't cause enough fear.
Learn how the waters could rise here,
See if that can get us in gear!

Harmful as the national debt.

Green Bag Lady

Green Bag Lady helps to save the Earth,
Teaching others to value its worth.
Someday maybe we're rid of plastic bags.
Reaching many - her fabric ones with tags.

People baffled she gives bags away.
Believing that's what makes their minds sway.
Labor, fabric donated to her,
Sharing this gift is what she'd prefer!

I buy recycled paper goods

Cardboard, Plastics, Glassware, Newspaper
I sort recycling as I should

Clothing, Cookware, Linens, Furniture
I donate excess from the home

Engine, Lighting, Gadgets, Thermostat
I power down when left alone

Dairy, Cereals, Berries, Vegetables
I try to develop my organic taste

Light bulbs, Water, Mailings, Packaging
I look for ways to reduce waste
